Chapter 8

I awoke the next morning when I could see a really bright shine through my closed eye lids.

I looked next to me and KJ was not there this morning.

Maybe he had already gotten up but if not I sure hoped my car was outside at least so I could go to work.

I opened the garage door and my car was not in there.

I opened the front door and looked around the hedges and there was no car.

I quickly went back inside and picked up my phone to call him and it went straight to voicemail.

I tried back to back and got the same thing.

I text wya and waited for about 10 minutes with no response.

I couldn’t believe this.

I just knew I had to call somebody to pick me up.

It had to be one of my nosey ass co-workers who would be all up in my business.

Maybe I’ll call a taxi instead so I didn’t have to explain the who, what, when and how to nobody.

I looked around for my purse and didn’t see it where I put it.

I got up and go into the bedroom thinking maybe I placed it somewhere other than where it was usually and it wasn’t there.

KJ must have grabbed it to make sure I didn’t go anywhere.

Damn!

I would have to call a co-worker anyways and fix me a sandwich or something for lunch.

I called Paula since she is close to me and not to mention white. Plus she works under me and just started so I am sure she will be eager to help the boss and plus not ask me twenty-one questions.

I dialed her number and after two rings, she picks up, “Hey boss.”

I say, “Good morning Paula. Have you made it to work yet?”

She says, ‘Not yet. Do I need to do something before I come in?”

I say, “Yes. Pick me up.” And laughed.

She joined in laughing as well before saying, “Are you kidding me or do I really need to pick you up?”

I say, “You really need to pick me up if you can. I have no car and I am stuck like chuck.”

She says, “Ok. Are you ready now?”

I said, “I’m not but I can be ready in a flash.”

She says, “Ok good. Text me your address so I can put it in my car’s navigator system.”

I say, “Will do and thanks.”

She says, “No problem.”

I hung up and text her my home address then hurried to brush my teeth and throw on some work clothes.

I was thankful my hair was up in braids because if not then it would have been a different story because even though I have good hair, it is long and thick and it takes a while to tame it.

As I bent down to put on my shoes, I notice some thongs stuffed between the bed rail and mattress like they were placed their deliberately.

Of course they weren’t mine so what they were doing there, I did not know.

I guess Portia was right.

KJ had slumped to a new low and I didn’t even know why I was even surprised.
